The 1951 Formula One season was the second season of the Formula One World Championship. After a highly successful inaugural season entries for the 1951 season doubled. Despite most of the front-running teams not attending, the Indianapolis 500 remained part of the Formula One calendar, and although the Swiss Grand Prix did not take place, two events were added to the calendar in the form of the Dutch and German Grand Prixs.
Giuseppe Farina won his second world championship despite the Alfa Romeo winning only one race. In fact, he secured the world title with one race remaining. The season would also see the introduction of a Constructor's championship alongside the main Driver's Championship. Ferrari took 4 wins to be crowned champions by 11.5 points.
Unfortunately, the season was marred by the tragic deaths of Luigi Fagioli in Belgium and Yves Giraud-Cabantous in Britain.
