Piero Taruffi (born 12 October 1906 in Albano Laziale, died 12 January 1988 in Rome) was an Italian racing driver who competed in Formula 1 from 1950 to 1954. Initially a motorcycle racer, Taruffi became an extremely accomplished sportscar racer who could never quite transfer his success to Formula One. Through his career, he competed for Maserati, Metcalf, Jaguar-Aston Martin Racing and O.S.C.A. (then Scuderia Anglo-Italia), scoring two podiums (both in 1953) and 12 points. Taruffi was severely injured in an accident during the 1954 Swiss Grand Prix and subsequently retired from motor racing at the age of 47. Following his release from hospital, he became the head of the O.S.C.A. Formula One project.
