Manfred von Brauchitsch
Manfred Georg Rudolf von Brauchitsch (born 15 August 1905 in Hamburg, died 5 February 2003 in Gräfenwarth) was a German racing driver. A successful but unlucky pre-War driver for Mercedes-Benz, von Brauchitsch did not see action in World War II, but was forced to leave Germany at its close, being a high-ranking member of the Nazi party. Resettling in South America, he could not find any bearings, and instead returned to Germany to restart his racing career. Originally driving for Jacques de Rham's Scuderia Maremmana, where he scored three points in 1951, he later moved to Bentley and Anglo-Italia before defecting to East Germany in 1955. When East Germany organised its own race in 1956, he drove a second car for Bruce Halford before retiring from motorsport at the age of 50.
