The team then shocked many pundits as Simpson managed to snare free agent Daniel Melrose to spearhead the team's campaign for 2015. However, the GSM-010 was quite uncompetitive as a chassis and Melrose would depart for Holden after just 4 rounds, having failed to qualify for a single race. This prompted Simpson himself to step into the void, before giving way to paydriver Saeed Al Faisal later in the season. It would be Al Faisal who who be the first driver to actually qualify for a race in a Simpson car, at the Dutch Grand Prix, but he failed to finish the race.

===F1RWRS=== | |||
Following their disastrous 2015 campaign, Simpson re-doubled their efforts to improve the F1RWRS team for 2016. Both Al Faisal and Macklin would depart the team - Macklin stepping back to F2RWRS, while Saeed Al Faisal would retire from F1RWRS to partner Dave Simpson in the GTRWC. The team also ended their agreement with BMW for customer engines, in favour of Renault power. Michael Cameron would be stepping up from F2RWRS, while Dave Simpson would start the season before giving way to Du Lei after the Australian leg of the championship.
Immediately, returns seemed good for Simpson, as the team qualified both cars in 2 of the 3 first races, but before long, the team's fortunes started too look all too similar to 2015. Lei would suffer an injury in a crash in her debut for the team at the British Grand Prix, and this would seemingly affect her performance for the rest of the season, as she would not make the grid again, and often dragged the team down in pre-qualifying. Cameron would gain the team their first race finish at the Northern US Grand Prix, before adding another classified finish in the season-ending race in Japan, but despite this minor progress, it was another disastrous season for the Australian squad, by and large.
== 2017 Season == | |||
===F1RWRS=== | |||
Searching for additional funding and support to boost the team's fortunes, Simpson made the interesting decision to contact Dacia, a subsidiary of their engine supplier Renault. The Romanian manufacturer agreed, and an arrangement with Renault saw the engines rebadged to Dacias, and the team would become the Dacia F1RWRS Team for 2017. Dave Simpson would return to the wheel, partnered by Belgian qualifying specialist Wouter Lamberigts, and with the DSM-030 chassis also a major improvement over their initial 2 efforts, the jump in performance was massive.
Both cars would qualify for every event, with Lamberigts qualifying on pole 4 times, though his lack of experience showed on Sundays, as a 4th in Austria and a 5th in Argentina were his only scores. Simpson would relish the ability to drive the first competitive car his eponymous team had produced, producing a brilliant 2nd place finish in Austria for the team's first podium finish. However, when Phillippe Nicolas became a free agent towards the end of the season, Simpson magnanimously stepped aside for the 2014 championship runner-up. Nicolas would score 4 additional points for the team in the final 3 races, enough to vault them past Autodynamics and Gauthier into a remarkable 6th in the Constructors table - 10 places above where they finished in 2016.
== 2018 Season == | |||
===ARWS=== | |||
Entering the 2018 season, Simpson reverted back to their old moniker, as Dacia were unwilling to step up their investment to keep up with the rising costs of running a competitive ARWS team. The team would instead run Yamaha engines, resign Nicolas, and signed paydriver Alexey Buyvolov to make up the shortfall in revenue. Still with uncertain finances in the wake of Dacia's withdrawal, however, the team elected to take a trade offer from MRT, giving up their rights to Nicolas in exchange for Jean-Luc Schiller, who brought funding of his own.
Although the primary reason Buyvolov and Schiller were brought to the team was to patch up the teams' finances, both drivers had won in 2017, and Schiller instantly delivered on his debut with the team by scoring another 2nd-place finish in the season-opening race at Adelaide. Both drivers would be regular threats for points throughout the season, especially over the back half of the year, where a Simpson would score points in 5 of the last 9 races, including double scores in Germany and Brazil. While their tally of 26 points was not enough to lift them past 6th in the Constructors Championship, Simpson had definitively proven their 2017 success was not just down to Dacia's support.
== 2019 Season == | |||
===ARWS=== | |||
Simpson entered 2019 seeking a breakthrough into the top 5 in the Constructors Championship and targeting a race win during the season. Unfortunately, however, the new DSM-050 was a bit of a step back in terms of competitiveness, though Buyvolov and Schiller were both able to score points on occasion. Neither driver was able to crack the podium, though and an embarrassing pair of failures to pre-qualify sullied the teams' close to 2019. This would signal their intent to focus on improving their fortunes for 2020.
== 2020 Season == | |||
===ARWS=== | |||
Entering 2020, the team retained Buyvolov's services, but would replace Schiller with Brazilian rookie Mineiro after finishing runner-up in the 2019 AutoReject 3.5 season. The team initially seemed to be treading water in the first two rounds of the season, but any further ARWS competition would be derailed by the Leonhard von Gottorp scandal.
== 2023 Season == | |||
===ARWS=== | |||
Now partnered with Sunbeam, Simpson's return to ARWS competition for the 2023 season would see an all-new driver lineup, with junior driver Emma Kickert in one car, and longtime sim driver Edvard Holm in the other. The team opted for rebadged Ford EcoBoost engines, which offered plenty of power, but little in the way of reliability. This would finally deliver the team their first win, at the hands of Kickert at the British Grand Prix, as well as a second in Austin, but severe unreliability handicapped their efforts outside of this. Particularly galling for them was the Australian GP, where, in front of their home crowd, Fajny Watson (subbing for an injured Holm) took pole position, and Kickert set the fastest lap of the race, only for both cars to retire very early in the running. As a result, due to the new points format, Simpson would end the season a dismal 11th in the Constructors Championship, their worst showing since 2016.
== 2024 Season == | |||
===ARWS=== | |||
Undeterred by their disappointing 2023, Simpson did not change their driver lineup or engine supply for 2024, pointing to their atrocious reliability record as the cause of all their woes in 2023.

Simpson Motorsports is an AutoReject World Series team owned by former ARWS driver Dave Simpson. Since the 2023 season, Simpson has operated in partnership with car manufacturer Sunbeam.
Formation
The team was formed in late 2013 when the F2RWRS was originally announced as the first RWRS junior series by at the time Prospec driver, Dave Simpson. It was his second foray into team ownership, after co-owning the Australian Minardi team with Paul Stoddart.
2014 season
F2RWRS
The team started the 2014 season quietly, with the team having not yet found a major sponsor and running a bare carbon fibre livery with minor sponsorship from a budget priced variety store in Australia called The Reject Shop. Michael Robertson and Dave Anderson were the two drivers for the team, both completing a full season.
Very promising signs were shown at the first race of the season in Turkey, when Robertson brought the car home in the points with 7th place even after a puncture while running second. The next two races weren't as good, with retirements and midpack results. Throughout the next few rounds the team's strongest point was shown - their amazing strategist, who helped Robertson into 5 consecutive points finishes, including a podium at Zandvoort. Anderson wasn't as lucky, retiring 3 times in those 5 races and scoring a 15th place, though he scored a single point with 8th at Zandvoort. These promising results were enough to lure Gulf into sponsoring the team. With a major sponsor looking to support the team over the long term, focus was shifted toward the 2015 season. This was apparent with the results dropping off over the rest of the season, with Robertson only scoring two more points finishes (a 6th and a 7th) while Anderson's bad luck continued to haunt him, only scoring one more point for an 8th place. At the end of the season the team had scored 32 points to take out 9th place in the constructors championship.
Even though the 2014 championship was over, there was still the Invitational race at the Nurburgring, specifically for up and coming drivers who hadn't yet driven in F2RWRS. All teams who entered had to have a version of their 2015 car ready for the race. The drivers for this race were Michael Cameron, who had already been signed by the team for 2015, and Markus Van de Schoot. Cameron started 3rd behind the MRT's while van de Schoot was only 17th, still adapting to the car. Cameron passed the MRT's before the end of lap 1 and led for the rest of the race, barring pit-stop periods, to take Simpson Motorsports' first race win, while van de Schoot retired with engine troubles.
2015 Season
F1RWRS
Simpson Motorsports stepped up to the main series in 2015, with many expecting team owner Dave Simpson to race alongside F2RWRS champion Mitchell Macklin under the Gulf Racing guise.
F2RWRS
Rebranded as Gulf M/Power Racing for the second year in F2RWRS, with F3RWRS runner-up and F2RWRS Invitational winner Michael Cameron racing alongside Dave Anderson who remained at the team for a second season after Anderson failed to sign with another team.
F3RWRS
The F3RWRS team ran older spec BMW engines as MINI's and were known as Gulf JCW Juniors, saw an all British line-up with rookies Roland Davidson and Tyler Buckley. The F3RWRS branch of the team folded after one largely unsuccessful season.
2016 Season
F1RWRS
2017 Season
F1RWRS
2018 Season
ARWS
2019 Season
ARWS
Simpson entered 2019 seeking a breakthrough into the top 5 in the Constructors Championship and targeting a race win during the season. Unfortunately, however, the new DSM-050 was a bit of a step back in terms of competitiveness, though Buyvolov and Schiller were both able to score points on occasion. Neither driver was able to crack the podium, though and an embarrassing pair of failures to pre-qualify sullied the teams' close to 2019. This would signal their intent to focus on improving their fortunes for 2020.
2020 Season
ARWS
Entering 2020, the team retained Buyvolov's services, but would replace Schiller with Brazilian rookie Mineiro after finishing runner-up in the 2019 AutoReject 3.5 season. The team initially seemed to be treading water in the first two rounds of the season, but any further ARWS competition would be derailed by the Leonhard von Gottorp scandal.
2023 Season
ARWS
2024 Season
ARWS
Undeterred by their disappointing 2023, Simpson did not change their driver lineup or engine supply for 2024, pointing to their atrocious reliability record as the cause of all their woes in 2023.
