- 1 - Alexis Tantovich recorded the fastest time in qualifying for the Championship Round of Japan, but started eleventh after a ten-place grid penalty from the previous race was applied. Peter Oliver was recognised as the pole-sitter for the race and received the 5 point bonus for doing so.
