Pedro Luis Gonzalez is a Mexican racing driver.

Career

Early career

Pedro began his racing career fairly late, at the age of 19 in karts. After 3 seasons in which he impressed by winning regularly, he received an offer to move up to Formula Renault 2.0 PanamGP for 2006.

PanamGP (2006-2008)

Pedro initially struggled with the transition to single-seater cars, but he finished 2nd twice at the end of his first season, and was resigned for 2007. He then rewarded his team's faith in him by winning the first race of the season, but inconsistency saw him drop to 4th by the end of the season. He won the first race again in 2008, but crashed while leading the second, before the Panam series was cancelled, leaving Pedro a disappointing 5th in the championship.

LATAM Challenge (2008-2015)

After the Panam series was cancelled, the LATAM Challenge Series sprung up in its absence, and Pedro was signed up to participate in the last 2 rounds, where he won twice, and was signed to drive for the entire 2009 season. He established himself as the early favourite by winning 4 of the first 6 races, all of which came at Amozoc, however, his lead was slowly whittled down over the course of the year, and he finished the season 3rd after a poor performance at the final 4-race round at Alajuela. He again was leading the championship with 6 wins in 2010, but a late surge from Giancarlo Serenelli saw him narrowly defeated.

In 2011, however, Pedro would not be denied, as he opened the season with 8 consecutive wins, and then won 2 more to seal the title. He won again each year from 2012-2015, making a name for himself as the second-best Mexican racing driver, behind only Jesus Plaza.

F1RICS

Through 2015, Carlos Slim was disappointed at the lack of Mexican participation in the F1 Rejects Indy Championship Series, and so backed Pedro Luis Gonzalez, with Cassidy Racing opting to sign him for 2016.
