Minardi were an Italian Formula One team and constructor. The team raced in F1 from 1976 to 1979 as Scuderia Everest and again from 1984 to 2005.
The team began its life as Scuderia Everest in the 1970s, entering the Italian national championship before moving to Formula 2 in the mid-1970s and eventually Formula One in 1976. Two years later, the team started building its own chassis, which yielded a single point courtesy of Piercarlo Ghinzani at the 1978 South African Grand Prix in just its second race since becoming a full-fledged constructor.
Following a very disappointing 1979, the team scaled back to F2 competition, having sold its M180 chassis to Alberto Colombo and his Riviera team for 1980. After a successful stint in the lower category, Giancarlo Minardi's outfit returned to the World Championship in 1984, having built a reputation as a well-liked underdog team that tried their absolute hardest to deliver results despite having a budget smaller than the majority of Formula One teams. At the end of 2005, the team was sold to Red Bull and rebranded as Squadra Toro Rosso (Team Red Bull in Italian).
