The Grand Prix Driver's Association is the trade union for currently contracted Formula One drivers. The prominence of the GPDA has changed from era to era, with the association being disbanded at several points in time.
History
The GPDA was first founded in the early 1960s in response to diminishing safety standards in the sport. The first chairman was Stirling Moss.
It would later play a more prominent role in the sport in the early 1980s before being disbanded later in the decade, remaining dormant for several years before being reformed in 1994 following the San Marino Grand Prix.
