The 1982 Formula One season was the 33rd season of Formula One. Clay Regazzoni entered the season as the reigning world champion, the oldest driver to do so since Giuseppe Farina, this time partnered by the up-and-coming Jérémy-Étienne Voeckler at McLaren. Alan Jones would embark on a sabbatical after being released from his contract at Lotus, but perhaps the biggest move of the off-season would see Alain Prost abandon Renault in favour of Williams, with the Grove team becoming the Honda works team.

The season would be regarded by motorsport historians as part of the heyday of turbocharged engines in Formula One. 6 manufacturers - Alfa Romeo, BMW, Honda, Renault, Rover-Hart, and TAG-Porsche would all produce turbocharged engines.
