Report:

Pastor Maldonado throws away a chance to extend his championship lead at Donington.

Pastor Maldonado entered the second race at the Donington Park with a 15-point lead. That amounts to a complete win, which is an impressive and healthy lead if you can keep everything under control.

Unfortunately, he was absolutely unable to manage this seemingly simple task. Getting risky whilst lapping Wehrlein despite having a good lead proved to be a horrible mistake and took the Sauber leading driver out of a race he could have won.

Sebastian Vettel used that error to take another win and melt down Maldonado’s championship lead. With Stoneman in second, the championship is once more ludicrously close with sixteen races left.

Theodore-Judd had a brilliant race as well, taking 4-5 and proving themselves the fourth-best team on the F1 grid. Jordan Davies and Kevin Magnussen both deserve praise, both holding up Hamilton, who crashed with Bianchi on lap one.
