Alberto Cara
Alberto Cara Morales (born 18 December 1989 in La Maravilla, Tropico) is a Tropican racing driver who currently competes in the Formula 2 Rejects World Race Series, driving for Licor Beirão Portugal.
Early career
Alberto Cara's first impression with motorsport were the occassional FedEx Championship Series race shown in Tropico's very short lived TV station. These few impressions made Cara fall in love with racing. Due to his father's loyal services to El Presidente, the latter was willing to support Cara's interest in motorsports. His generousity was limited, which is why Cara was not allowed to build a karting career in the United States. Taking the other obvious option, Cara spent a number of his teenage years in Argentina, always his home in mind, winning a huge number of kart races in the years from 2002 to 2006, becoming a minor star in the Argentine racing scene.
Further career in Argentina
After his karting career he made the jump to the new Fórmula Interprovencial, an Argentine racing series based on Formula Renault concepts. In the 2007 and 2008 seasons he almost made the title twice, coming second to Alejandro Pancello and Fabricio Fernandez respectively. The battle against the latter went to the third to final lap. Sadly, his funding run out afterwards and - having grown interested in Grand Prix racing himself - El Presidente refused to give Cara further funding in order to save money for an own effort in racing. Finding his own Argentine sponsors, Cara returned in glorious fashion after having missed both the 2009 and 2010 season. He entered the TRV6 becoming a decent midfielder.
GP3 (2012-2013)
After two seasons, Alberto realised that his career was in stagnation. Alberto Cara and El Presidente approached Kay Lon who was in midst of his championship battle against Pippa Mann and Chris Dagnall. Lon used his relationships and managed to get Cara a drive with RSC Mücke Motorsport in the final GP3 event of the season. Cara impressed with a brilliant lap in qualifying, taking pole position. The race showed Cara's lack of experience, he lost a number of places and finished tenth. Alberto Cara came back in race two and took sixth place, earning one point. Despite only entering one weekend, Cara's three points allowed him to take 22nd place in the championship.
Therefore it was glaringly obvious a GP3 team would be interested in his service and Status Grand Prix signed him. The Spanish race was not too successful, but Monaco was more impressive, taking a win, a fourth place and the pole to earn 15 points and establish the fact that he will be fighting for the Top 5 in the championship. A number of good races amongst with another win in the second Silverstone race allowed Cara to take fourth place in the championship, another great effort for the Status Grand Prix team.
F1RWRS and F2RWRS (2014-onwards)
During the season, Alberto Cara was confirmed for a drive in the new F2RWRS series with Licor Beirão Portugal run by Manuel João. Cara established himself as a signifcant contender when he did a brilliant lap in Istanbul. His first pole position came at the Silverstone circuit, shortly followed by a win at the Austrian Red Bull-Ring with another win coming in Spa-Francorchamps. Sadly, his championship challenge died with Sunday results not being on par, especially his last five races which had a 80% retirement rate. On the 25th November, Licor Beirão Portugal confirmed that Cara would remain with the team for the 2015 season. During the following season Cara showed again great qualifying performance but failed to make use of that during race day.
Before the start of 2014, Alberto Cara and Renaldo Jiménez were confirmed as test drivers for the official Tropican entry in F1RWRS, Tropico Grand Prix powered by CR Motorsport. He was not retained for that job in 2015, although experts assume that this is due to Cara wishing to focus on F2RWRS and he is still considered very likely to become one of the teams' main drivers. Shortly before the end of the 2015 F1RWRS season, he was confirmed as driver for Tropico Grand Prix powered by CR Motorsport for the following season. However, shortly before the end of the season he recieved a ban for the first three races. He will be replaced during that time by Renaldo Jiménez.
