Kevin Magnussen

Kevin Jan Magnussen (born 5th October, 1992 in Roskilde, Denmark) is a Danish racing driver currently driving in Formula One for Toyota. He is the son of former Grand Prix winner Jan Magnussen.

Formula One

2014-2015: Marussia

After winning the Formula Renault 3.5 series in 2013, Magnussen was selected to be part of the first ever FIA Young Driver's Draft. Initially a major target for McLaren, Magnussen was selected seventh overall by Russian team Marussia.

This materialised into a full time drive for 2015, where he'd drive alongside Brazilian racer Felipe Nasr. Magnussen's career in Formula One would get off to an excellent start, taking an unexpected second place finish in the first race of the second round in Malaysia - the best result for a Dane in F1 since his father's win in the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix. Magnussen would only score points on three more occasions in 2015, his best result of these being a fourth place finish in Germany.

2016-2018: DGNgineering

Following the driver merry-go-round of 2015, Magnussen found himself out of a race seat in Formula One for the first time. However, thanks to his connections with the Dagnall family - Magnussen was able to get a Friday tester berth at DGNgineering for the 2016 season - evolving into a full race drive in 2017.

Magnussen would echo his father's 1998 pairing, teaming with team principal Chris Dagnall's son Bradley for most of 2017. His best result would be a sixth place at the European Grand Prix.

Magnussen's 2018 would start much better, however, with the Dane taking a pair of wins in the season opening United States Grand Prix in Las Vegas - both his and DGNgineering's first wins in F1. He would only manage one more podium in 2018 - a second place at the Finnish Grand Prix - but would finish in a respectable seventh place in the driver's championship.

2019: Fernando Alonso Speed Team

In 2019, Magnussen would join the newly formed Fernando Alonso Speed Team following the departure of DGNgineering at the end of 2018. He partnered French racer Pierre Gasly. Magnussen was a regular points scorer in 2019, his best result being a fourth place in the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix. Magnussen was not retained in 2020 and was left without a drive.

2022-: Toyota

Following the loss of his Formula One drive, Magnussen turned to endurance racing and after fulfilling his dream to race alongside his father Jan at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, he signed a one-year deal with Toyota Gazoo Racing. He was also signed as test driver for Bridgestone for their Formula One return. Impressing the team in both roles throughout the season, after which he was signed to a two-year contract with Toyota Motorsport in Formula One, marking his return to the sport. He then convincingly beat his teammate, 9-time F1 race winner and 2020 Super Formula champion Valtteri Bottas.
