The 1976 Formula One season was the 27th season of Formula One. [[[[Niki Lauda]]]] and Ferrari returned as reigning champions to defend their titles, but he would be tragically killed at the Soviet Grand Prix. A championship round was held in Japan for the first time, with the Fuji Speedway playing host to the Japanese Grand Prix.
