Report:

Rain and good driving allowed Haas a rare victory over the Caterhams.

After a rather dry weekend so far, the heavens struck with a vengeance, turning the second Dutch Grand Prix of 2018 into a total washout: 23 laps of it where run behind the safety car; Maven O’Connor acquired a lot of leading laps in his Mercedes, leading the pack until the conditions had improved to the point where racing safely was an option.

Caterham seemed to be in control of things, even without that long SC period gifting them a long period of going unchallenged for the victory. They were off to a decent start once racing was underway and it seemed like they could safely bring another 1-2 finish home. Unfortunately for Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, their work was not gonna be easy.

Stoffel Vandoorne had a very decent restart, making up a couple of places rather quickly. He then proceeded to put in a large number of fast laps, allowing him to take the lead after all cars had a change of wet-weather tyres in the pitlane. Once his teammate had an accident, burying his car in the walls, a red flag sealed the deal for Haas’ 4th F1 win.

The main rivals of the American team also were able to score a good bunch of points: both Sauber and Calinetic had both cars within the top 10. In a rare sight, Max Verstappen and Mike Rockenfeller, who are both considered inferior drivers to their highly-skilled partners, were both ahead of their teammates when the red flag concluded the event.

Fastest Lap:

Lewis Hamilton – 1:23.476

Infinite Improbability Drive Of The Race:

Mike Rockenfeller – he was extremely impressive, finally appearing like he has a future in F1.

Reject Of The Race:

Ferrari – the wet weather did not particularly aid their chances, but that performance was poor on every level.
