Report:

The Italian crowd was highly pleased to see Alain Prost score a win at Ferrari's temple.

The Italian Grand Prix is always the most important race of the year for Scuderia Ferrari and its fanatic fans, unless one of their drivers is fighting for a title in the season finale perhaps. Obviously, the team wanted a good result. Optimism was on the low though, given as Ferrari struggled with reliability all year long. Senna’s pole also made clear Ferrari were not the fastest car out there.

When Michele Alboreto lost his car and smacked into the wall, fracturing one of his fingers, you would think that Ferrari would give up on heroics at their home race. Regrettably for the competition, that was not the case. Alain Prost showed his finesse by making his car last despite asking everything from it. He went on to win his second race of the season, the crowd being fully delighted by that.

With Brendon Cassidy making a very silly error, losing control of his car into turn 1, Prost is now close to the championship lead, especially since Guillaume Gauthier managed to get beaten by Nigel Mansell, who had a breathtaking drive in the Arrows-Motori Moderni. The Italian engine manufacturer scoring a glorious result in what amounts to their home race.

Italians not employed at Ferrari were also able to enjoy this event. As explained before, Motori Moderni propelled one driver to a podium. Ligier, powered by Italian car manfacturer Alfa Romeo, also scored points, Riccardo Patrese’s and Rene Arnoux’s cars survived against all odds, scoring five points for the French team. Arsenio Matarazzo pleased the fans of Italian underdogs by scoring his second consecutive points finish.
