Report:

Dave Cassidy and Lewis Hamilton entertained the fans of Budapest with a legendary fight.

Sometimes, motorsport races become classics by the situation unfolding within them; other times, they become classics by the narrative playing out within them. Today, we saw a minor classic on account of the elite drivers battling for the win in a ruthless fight for the ages. Those fans who watched this race will tell their friends to do so as well.

Sebastian Vettel won qualifying and it looked like Caterham had overcome their miserable outing on Saturday. Unfortunately for them, the Precisions had not gone anywhere. Dave Cassidy used his Mercedes-Benz launch control to get the jump on the green cars, taking the lead of the second Hungarian Grand Prix and beginning to fight off the green menace behind him.

As far as the world title is concerned, however, Dave Cassidy is only a minor player: the true threat to Caterham is Jules Bianchi. The French driver aided his rivals by spinning on lap 4, dropping all the way to 21st after having fought his way out of a gravel trap. This seemed an open door for Vettel, but the German crashed out of the race.

As Dave Cassidy and Lewis Hamilton fought an epic battle for the win, with the American having the edge, Jules Bianchi fought back to third place, helping himself in the title race and denying Kevin Magnussen and Daniel Ricciardo a chance at finishing third. Grosjean, Bottas, Rockenfeller and Markelov made for unusual points finishers again.

Fastest Lap:

Lewis Hamilton – 1:15.512

Infinite Improbability Drive Of The Race:

Artem Markelov – once more, he shows that he is Nigel Mansell’s prime student and drives amazingly.

Reject Of The Race:

Sebastian Vettel – was given a major chance to win a major win in the war for the title, failed to do anything good.
