Report:

Johnny Cecotto, Jr. and Stoffel Vandoorne were not the only teammates fighting each other today.

Ever since Caterham-Judd proved to be the dominant force in F1 today, the question was whether they could make that one goal that had eluded even dominant efforts like last season’s Williams-Peugeot team: 1000 points in one season. While decent NASCAR drivers are used to such a sum, in F1 it represents domination unlike everything ever seen before and thus it was the declared goal of the CWG once both titles were secured.

A pole position for Vettel put them one step closer to achieving that goal, leaving them in need of only one ninth place to cross the line. As expected, they delivered more than that, securing a 1-2. They had to work hard for it, Jules Bianchi blocked Daniil Kvyat in the first phase of the race and Sébastien Bourdais put the pressure on Daniil Kvyat in the third and final phase.

Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel had secured himself a nice lead that failed to survive the second round of pitstops, a very late stop left Vettel with ground to make up. A good pass against Bourdais gave him P2 quickly and Kvyat had absolutely no chance of keeping the faster German behind him, as has been the case a few times this season already, Kvyat’s future with Caterham being strongly in doubt.

The situation in other relevant teams was not much more lovely, either: Precision lost out due to Manfred once more being on the wrong side of the thin line seperating genuis and madness, the two drivers of Haas had a vicious battle in the lower points-paying positon, Sauber lost a healthy bunch of points when a transmission failure took out Pagenaud and Williams had a miserable day in general.
