Yannick Dalmas
Yannick Dalmas (born 28 July 1961 in Le Beausset, Var) is a French former racing driver. He raced in multiple types of categories, including Formula One and WTCM and won the Le Mans 24 Hours 4 times during the 1990s.
Formula One
Dalmas made his Formula One debut in 1987 for Benetton alongside Belgian driver Thierry Boutsen. Dalmas scored his first points and podium with a third place in an attrition-hit British Grand Prix - before finishing sixth in the Japanese Grand Prix later on in the season. Dalmas finished sixteenth in the championship and was not retained.
After a year in the WTCM, Dalmas returned to the grid in 1989 with the Ligier team. Dalmas had suffered with a bout of Legionnaire's Disease in the off-season and as a result he - nor the woeful Ligier team were able to qualify all season. Dalmas entered the opening race of 1990 but failed to qualify once again - causing the Frenchman to retire from Formula One.
WTCM
After missing out on the Benetton drive in 1988, Dalmas took a step down to the newly-formed World Touring Car Masters with the Voeckler Renault team in 1988. Unfortunately for Dalmas he was only able to make the grid on two occasions all season.
Dalmas returned to the WTCM in 1990 after his Legionnaire's Disease ruled him out of F1 for good. Dalmas signed for the small British Hunter Autosport team who ran a pair of Vauxhall Astra E GSi 16V in the lowest division of the series. The thinking behind this is that the low pressure environment would allow him to regain an amount of his strength whilst also keeping himself "match fit". Dalmas was consistently one of the fastest drivers in his class in pre-qualifying but struggled on race day - his best results being a pair of second places in Class D.
Feeling somewhat reinvigorated ahead of 1991 - Dalmas was signed by the works Peugeot Talbot Sport team alongside fellow French Formula One driver Philippe Alliot campaigning a Peugeot 405.
