Peter Whitehead

Peter Whitehead (born 12 November 1914 in Menston, died 21 September 1958 in Lasalle, France) was a British racing driver who competed in Formula 1 from 1950 onwards. The winner of the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans, Whitehead is notable for having driven for Ferrari and Alfa Romeo, scoring six podiums in the process and finishing fifth in the championship in 1952. He died when his car fell 30 ft. down a ravine during the 1958 Tour de France automobile. He was 43.
