Sir Stirling Moss (born 17 September 1929) is a British former Formula 1 driver. He started competing in Formula 1 in 1950, driving for ENB at the Swiss Grand Prix. He became a full-time driver for Alfa Romeo in 1951. After four years with poor results, he was dropped by Alfa Romeo in late 1954. For 1955 he signed with Scuderia Anglo-Italia, and scored his first podium. Later on, he scored his maiden victory in the 1956 Scottish Grand Prix, putting him in contention for the world title, but he ultimately failed to overcome the dominant Jack Brabham. The following year, a new O.S.C.A. engine and a reliable package allowed Moss to lead the championship over the quicker Brabham, but a string of late-season retirements and bad performances allowed the Australian to pip him to the title in Watkins Glen.
