2011 F1RWRS British Grand Prix
The 2011 F1RWRS British Grand Prix was the sixth race of the 2011 F1RWRS Season. The race was won by Dave Simpson for the Australian Minardi team.
Race Report
Pre-Race
Prior to the race, ArrowTech ART was formed by a mysterious individual known only as "The Fox". Jari Kekkonen and Nicolas Steele were announced as the drivers and the team showed up for the British GP. The British Grand Prix was also the debut for Holden F1RWRS Racing Team and Team Phoenix. Jeroen Krautmeir also made his debut for JLD Motorsport. Lastly, Hagane Shizuka decided to leave West Cliff Racing and form his own team, Manx-Anglo-Nippon Racing Team, with fellow driver Douglas Mann.
Qualifying
Jari Kekkonen stunned everyone by somehow topping pre-qualifying. However, seven drivers would now be knocked out due to the inclusion of Arrowtech. J. Zimmer, Moll, Jones, Watkinson, Davies, Pacchairini, and De Bock failed to qualify for the race. The Prospecs looked like they had the advantage after the real qualifying session as David Koczo and Nathanael Spencer qualified first and third. Pippa Mann split the two drivers and with championship hopefuls Gary Cameron and Daniel Melrose fourth and fifth.
Race
The start was uneventful but Dave Simpson slipped into third. The midfield shuffled around, all while Koczo led the field through the first 10 laps of the race. The midfield pack changed constantly with Gary Cameron, Frank Zimmer and Darren Older Jr battling for position. Nicolas Steele became the first driver to pit on Lap 9. On Lap 10, Simpson and Pippa Mann pitted for fresh rubber.
Simpson jumped Mann in the stops as Cameron and Melrose battled it out for 6th. Simon Redman then came out of nowhere and passed both Cameron and Melrose. Melrose pitted on Lap 14, followed a lap later by race leader Koczo. Koczo failed to hold the lead, with Simpson assuming a massive lead over Frank Zimmer. Crucially, championship leader Nathanael Spencer and Koczo ended up behind Melrose in the running order.
By Lap 20, all the cars had stopped, elevating Pippa Mann to third and Melrose to fourth. Second place was held by Nicolas Steele for the fledgling Arrowtech team but his old tyres gave way and he lost three places, eventually finishing fifth. It was still a good result for the (then) small team. Melrose and Koczo both got past Mann to take second and third. However, the day belonged to Dave Simpson who won by almost a minute. Giovanni Roda had a quiet race and managed to take sixth. Steele's fifth place also scored him his first ever points.
