Micko Glotch

Micko Glotch (born in 1992) is a Dutch racing driver who currently races for Aston Martin in the 2015 F2RWRS season.

Racing career

Early career

Glotch first appeared on the international scene briefly in late 2011 when, at the age of 19, he was chosen by F1RWRS and REECCS driver Kay Lon to partner him in the season-ending REECCS race at Bathurst. However, saddled with the slow and notoriously unstable Trabant, Micko could only finish 35th, with Lon finishing 36th in his heat, enough for only equal 36th in total. However, in his heat, Micko was the third best Trabant, and therefore scored a single point, which classified him in 70th position that season.

Micko then turned to single seaters, and after a year in German Formula 3, he moved to the Formula 3 EuroSeries for 2013, but resurfaced in March 2014, when Tropico Grand Prix, fed up with Darren Older Jr's slow pace, began searching for a pay driver. Glotch suggested himself to the team owners, who accepted his offer, signing Glotch for an F1RWRS drive for 2015. In the meantime, Glotch was to challenge for the F3 EuroSeries title.

But when Andrej Kremnicky was severely injured during an F2RWRS crash with Laurent Seron, Micko again offered his services.

2014-2015: F2RWRS

Originally, Aston Martin was planning on hiring ex-F1RWRS driver Tristan Jung, but his large racing experience rendered him inelgibile for an F2RWRS drive, so the choice turned to Glotch and Joel Melrose, the younger brother of Daniel Melrose. With Melrose considered too young for the drive, Glotch was hired by default for the Monaco Grand Prix, and on a five-race contract. Glotch would still compete in the Formula 3 EuroSeries in parallel.

Micko qualified at the very back for his first race, before being taken out in a lap 2 accident caused by George Liquor. The Dutchman wasn't impressing the Aston Martin bosses, but he markedly improved for the next race in France, qualifying 11th and running in the points all race until electrical problems bumped his down to ninth place, just outside the points, causing him to utter: "F*** the electrics".

At Silverstone, Glotch qualified 13th and through consistent driving finished seventh, scoring his first points, and beating his team mate Alessandro Marchesi for the first time. This performance prompted Tropico to move his F1RWRS début forward to the Macau Grand Prix, in order to earn a Reject Licence. This racing style of gaining places without looking like it would be his trademark that season, as he used the same tactic to finish sixth in Austria, which prompted Aston Martin to extend Glotch's contract to the return of Kremnicky.

Glotch broke away from his usual style in Germany, when a horrible qualifying session made him mildly mad, and he began gaining place after place to finish the race in fifth position. He was unable to keep the momentum at his home race at Zandvoort, when he encountered numerous problems and failed to score.

At this point, his F1RWRS contract was becoming slightly shaky, as his performances were good, but not enough to guarantee a Reject Licence, necessary for participation in an F1RWRS race weekend. This criteria was to finish in the top ten in the F2RWRS, and in Belgium, Micko made a step towards this by scoring a career-best fourth position in a high-attrition race, putting him in 8th place in the championship. This dropped to tenth place in Hungary after having an unusually tough race, finishing outside of the points.

For the Czech Grand Prix, Kremnicky was back, and Marchesi was higher in the championship, so Glotch had to make way, although his contract stipulated that he would remain the team's test driver. The promise of a race drive for Tropico was broken before the Mediterranean Grand Prix, and with it all chance of any F1RWRS drive for 2015. Glotch finished the season in 15th position.

However, with Kremnicky and Marchesi both leaving the team for 2015, Micko found himself as first driver for the team alongside F3RWRS champion Tomo Kazama. So far, the car looks like a solid midfielder, but it doesn't look like the team will be capable of having the same success as in 2014. On February 4th 2015, Micko got his first taste of F1RWRS machinery when he was invited to Boxtel's pre-season test at Zandvoort.
