George Dario Marino Franchitti, MBE (born 19th May, 1973 in Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland) is a Scottish former racing driver known for his time in IndyCar and Formula One. He is a two-time IndyCar champion, winning in 2010 and 2011.

He is the older brother of fellow racing driver Marino Franchitti and cousin to former Formula One pilot Paul di Resta.

Career

Formula One

Franchitti made his Formula One debut in 1999, signing for his former British F3 team Stewart Grand Prix off the back of a impressive CART campaign in 1998. Franchitti would be paired with 1994 F3 teammate Jan Magnussen.

Franchitti would be a regular points scorer in 1999 and finished in tenth place overall in an impressive debut season - his best results being fourth place in the Austrian and Belgian Grands Prix.

However, once the Stewart team rebranded as Jaguar, Franchitti struggled and would leave the team at the end of a pointless 2000 season to race for Team Green in CART.

IndyCar

By 2010, Franchitti was racing full-time in IndyCar with Chip Ganassi Racing. He'd clinch the title in 2010 and 2011 - before retiring from full-time motorsport in late 2014.
