Terry Hawkin
Terry Hawkin (born 1st September 1998 in Southend-on-Sea, England) is an English racing driver, currently driving for Jones Racing in the 2016 IFRC season. He is currently backed by lager manufacturer San Miguel as a precursor to it establishing a bottling plant in Hawkin's home town of Southend.
Early Career (2006-2013)
Hawkin began his motorsport career as many other young drivers do, entering into the fiercely competitive world of karting in 2006, aged 7, and having won a number of races and featured prominently, he was picked up by Sammy Jones who offered to assist Hawkin with a step up to Formula Ford at the end of 2011. Two successful years in Formula Ford followed, with race wins and 2nd place in the 2013 championship resulting in Jones immediately promoting the young Englishman into the first seat of his newly-created Jones Racing F3RWRS team for 2014.
Racing Career (2014-present)
2014 Season - Success in both F2RWRS and F3RWRS
Starting off driving in the 2014 season, Terry was partnered with Belgian Eric Swerts and at the first round of the year at Adelaide, drove solidly all weekend, securing two 4th place finishes. A more average weekend followed at Laguna Seca, with a best result of 7th over the three races for the Englishman.
After only two races in the F3RWRS however, Hawkin was called up to the F2RWRS to replace Laurent Seron who had been injured in a horrifying accident between himself and Andrej Kremnicky at the first race of the season at Turkey. Seron's boss Tony Gillet was initially going to promote Eric Swerts, but due to the Belgian having an underwhelming start to the F3RWRS season, Gillet gave the nod to Hawkin to make the step up to the next category. Terry would subsequently drive for the Gillet team for the next four races until Seron had returned to fitness.
His first race came at the daunting Monaco street circuit where having qualified an excellent 5th, Hawkin ran well in the race before damaging his car whilst pressuring Tommy Nash for the minor points placings, forcing him to retire. It was a bitter way to end the weekend, but Terry had shown his potential, and this was realised at the very next race at Magny Cours where he qualified 7th and then in the heavy rain drove superbly to finish on the podium in 3rd place. It was a dream come true for Hawkin who'd only been competing in Formula Ford a year previously. Heartbreak struck at the next round, Hawkin's home race, however when he retired only 4 laps from the end whilst leading and on course for victory. At his final race for Gillet standing in for Seron, Hawkin again drove an excellent race to clinch another 3rd place finish, despite being unable to keep up with eventual race winner Alberto Cara who's faster car allowed him to race a one-stop strategy to Hawkin's two. With Laurent Seron having recovered from his injuries in time for the German F2RWRS race, Hawkin departed Gillet returned to the F3RWRS and Jones Racing.
Having missed the F3RWRS British round at Brands Hatch, Hawkin returned to the series in time for the fourth round in Germany. The experience he'd gained from the F2RWRS showed immediately, as the young Brit took pole, before winning the first and third races and coming second in the second race. He took fastest lap in all three en route to the round victory overall. This superb weekend set Hawkin up for the championship, as he contended with Jack Christopherson Jr, Michael Cameron and Tomo Kazama. At the next race in Belgium, Hawkin made an enormous gamble, taking up the spot at the newly created Scuderia Jones Italia in the F2RWRS, which had been formed from the ashes of the Trueba Junior Team. At the same time, he intended to stay on in the F3RWRS and dovetail the two series for the rest of the year. Another podium followed in the F3RWRS, but retirement in the F2RWRS suggested he might have made the wrong decision.
It didn't deter him however as a long break in the F3RWRS before it's penultimate round in China allowed Hawkin to focus on the next four F2RWRS races for Jones Italia, which brought him two more 3rd places in Hungary and Portugal and another points finish in 8th at Italy. From there, Hawkin was replaced by Irishman Connor O'Heagan so that Terry remained eligible for the final two F3RWRS rounds. The first of these, in China, proved to be the worst of the season for the Englishman. A 4th place in race 1 was followed by a clash with Max Torbani in race 2 which saw the Italian punt Hawkin off the road and force him out of race 3. It meant that despite the double points on offer at the final race at Surfers Paradise, the title was all but out of Hawkin's hands. Nevertheless it didn't deter him, and from the start Terry looked on the pace. Despite missing out on the pole, Hawkin quickly moved into the lead of the race, and from there controlled it, overtaking the one-stopping Dorien Lamberigts near the end to seal the victory, his third of the series, as well as the fastest lap, leaving him second overall in the championship, only two points behind champion Kazama. It was a superb way to end the year for the young Brit, although his season still wasn't over. The final race on the F2RWRS calender, the FedEx 100, gave Hawkin one last chance to win an F2RWRS race in 2014. This he did in emphatic fashion as the Jones Italia team took a superb 1-2 finish with Marco Bizzarri in second place, avoiding the carnage that took out the majority of the field over the course of the race. Having lined up second on the grid though, Hawkin was able to stay out in front and out of trouble, and with his success in the F3RWRS as well, he ended the year in style.

Jones' Protege
Hawkin has been viewed by some as Sammy Jones' protege, and there is wide-spread speculation that should Hawkin continue to prove himself in the lower categories, he will eventually replace Jones at his own team in the F1RWRS.
