Riccardo Gabriele Patrese (born 17 April 1954 in Padua, Italy) is an Italian former racing driver known for his appearances in Formula One.
Formula One
1977: LEC & Renault
Patrese made his competitive Formula One debut at the 1977 Spanish Grand Prix for LEC Refrigeration Racing, where he failed to qualify. His first race start came at the Tuscan Grand Prix, where he finished in 16th place.
After Renault driver Jean-Pierre Jarier replaced the injured Emerson Fittipaldi at the Fittipaldi squad after the Dutch Grand Prix, Patrese replaced Jarier effective for the final seven races of 1977. Patrese made his debut for Renault at the German Grand Prix, where despite out-qualifying team-mate Jean-Pierre Jabouille he did not finish the race, spinning out on Jabouille's dropped oil after an engine failure.
1978: Scuderia Everest
Patrese joined the Scuderia Everest team for 1978 alongside Piercarlo Ghinzani.
1987-1989: Ligier
By 1987, Patrese was racing for the Ligier Loto team along with René Arnoux. Patrese scored points twice in 1987, his best result being a fourth place finish in the Italian Grand Prix.
Patrese remained alongside Arnoux for another year in 1988 - this time only taking one points finish - a fifth place in Monaco.
1989 saw Patrese joined by another Frenchman in the form of Yannick Dalmas.
