Following his Formula Two campaign in 2018 where he'd take nine wins over the course of the season, Kirchhöfer would sign for Williams alongside fellow F1 rookie Santiago Urrutia. Williams would dearly struggle all season, and Kirchhöfer would fail to even break the top ten at any point of the year.

Both he and Urrutia remained together at Williams in 2020.
