Andrea Geisler
Andrea Geisler (b. 1965 in Leipzig, East Germany) is a German racing driver best known for her appearances in the World Touring Car Masters, winning the Class D championship in 1988.
Early Life
Born in a communist nation, Geisler competed in Eastern Bloc events for much of the 1980s, eventually building a reputation as a very agressive driver with a ruthless style. With the changes of the Bloc towards the mid 1980s, she was allowed to go to West Germany to build a career, using a privateer Trabant. The Trabant was horribly off the pace in many of the local touring car events, and so she eventually switched to more conventional machinery. Her results improved significantly, and she was eventually spotted by West German team Joest Racing. They picked her up for their D-Class WTCM operation, alongside some one-offs in sportscar events.
World Touring Car Masters
Geisler made her WTCM debut at the third round of the 1988 season at the Watkins Glen Circuit with Joest Racing at the wheel of a Class-C Toyota Corolla Levin. She failed to qualify in this highly contested class on her debut and switched to a slower D-Class Corolla Levin at the Norisring round. She would take part in a further four rounds in this car, taking wins at Birmingham and Monza on her way to the Class D championship.
In 1989, Geisler was scouted by Argentinian team Escuderia Hernandez to drive their solitary Nissan Skyline R32 in the top division of WTCM. A year on from her poor showing at Watkins Glen, Geisler took second place overall in both the Endurance and Sprint races on the American circuit.
Following the injuries to Kazuyoshi Hoshino at Kyalami (himself a replacement for Masahiro Hasemi), Geisler was promoted to the works Nismo Motorsport squad for the remainder of the season. She took her first overall win in the championship at the Charade round, becoming the first woman to take such an honour in the series.
The recovery of Hasemi in the 1990 off season briefly saw Geisler out of a drive - however she would sign for the works Audi team alongside Altfrid Heger and Derek Warwick. Geisler made history at the Pau round when she became the first to win outright in a Class B vehicle.
Audi's withdrawal in 1991 saw her swap Ingolstadt for Stuttgart as she signed with Mercedes-Benz as the team's reserve and test driver.
FIA Endurance Challenge
In 2019, Geisler joined British GTE-Am squad MK Scuderia at the wheel of their Aston Martin Vantage GTE alongside John Bovy and Jonas Söderström.
