1994 F1RGP2C Brazilian Grand Prix
The 1994 F1RGP2C Brazilian Grand Prix was the first race of the 1994 F1RGP2C season and the inaugural race of the F1RGP2C. It was held at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace. The race was won by Tom Douglas driving for McLaren.
Qualifying
The Friday and Saturday qualifying sessions were rather eventful. The Friday session started with George Tramontani's Simtek pulling over with a blown engine after only completing one lap. Zimmer topped that session with Christopherson second and Douglas third. The Saturday session saw Jack Christopherson pull off with a problem, leaving Zimmer with the first pole position in F1RGP2C history.
Race
John Zimmer led from pole into Turn 1, while further back, Andrew Spokes lost his front wing after hitting Samael Meerwick. Tom Douglas rocketed into second position, with his teammate and the two Ferraris also getting good starts. Both Jordans mixed it up with the frontrunners until Leonhard von Gottorp retired on Lap 22 with a water leak. Attrition was the main storyline of the day. Thirteen cars retired from the race, all with mechanical issues. Douglas took the lead from Zimmer and led for most of the race. Zimmer would later retire with a water leak.
Zimmer was not the only frontrunner to drop out with mechanical troubles. Both Ferraris retired with problems, as well as the second Benetton of Kazuhiko Takagi who capped off a terrible weekend with a race-ending puncture. Tom Douglas took the victory in the inaugural race with Jack Christopherson second and Éadbhard Ó'Caoimhín finishing third for Jordan. Éadbhard took IIDOTR for his performance. Daniel Moreno was fourth for Williams and Pieter Kickert finished fifth in his Tyrrell. However, both drivers were gifted a place when Douglas Mann's Peugot engine combusted on the last lap. Mann crossed with his McLaren in flames as both Kickert and Moreno passed him on the last corner. The first ever Reject of the Race in F1RGP2C history went to Peugeot for the engine failure that cost Mclaren fourth place.
