The 1991 Italian Formula One Championship was the fourth season of the of Italian Formula One Championship. Another dominant season for reigning champions Alain Prost and Ferrari was both expected and delivered; for the first time, Ferrari provided customer engines to the Minardi team - but this coincided with Minardi's worst showing in the Italian Championship. This year also marked the first instance of a non-Italian constructor, as Lotus entered their driver Johnny Herbert in the Indoor Trophy; the competition organisers made clear however that this did not constitute a full-season entry. The season would see fourteen drivers compete for eight different teams.
