Bazza, a pure-bred bogan, was a mechanic in the Inala suburb of Brisbane. When [[HURT Racing]], the local racing team, acquired a Life chassis in 1991, Bazza was hired as team mechanic and test driver, purely because he was the only man available, and was no less qualified than the team's first driver, [[Joe Bloggs]]. He would have been selected as driver, but initially he did not want to properly race the car.

As team mechanic, he received most of the blame from Bloggs, who refused to blame his poor showings on himself. With Bloggs' arrogance extending to the whole team, Bloggs left the team, leaving Bazza, as official reserve driver, to be promoted to his first race drive.

After a lengthy retirement from racing, Bazza became an armchair supporter, and when he saw an ad in the paper for a 'V8 Supercar' for $500, he jumped on the occasion. It turned out that this "Supercar" was in fact a Trabant, and, suddenly tempted by racing again, Bazza signed up for the REECCS, the only racing series in which this car was legal. He signed up in time for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Qualifying only in 41st position, he made his way to 33rd by the end of the race. In fact, Bazza would turn out to be the highest-ranked Trabant driver in the race, earning three points in the process!

There were two Australian drivers known as "Bazza the Bogan." The first competed in the Life GP Series, the second in the REECCS.

Life GP Driver

A pure bred bogan from the suburb of Inala, in Brisbane, whose real name was Barry Smith. He was initially the mechanic/test driver for the HURT Racing team, but he replaced Joe Bloggs when Joe was fired. He drove 8 races, only finishing one of them in 9th place. He was seriously injured in an accident at Rouen-Les-Essarts and retired from racing. He continued on as the team's mechanic for "a couple of years" before returning to Australia. According to Will Roberts, he was born in around 1959 and died in the early part of the 2010s.

REECCS Driver

Literally nothing is known about the REECCS driver outside of the fact that he too was a hardcore bogan. He became involved in the REECCS after seeing an ad in the paper for a 'V8 Supercar' for $500, and jumping on the occasion. It turned out that this "Supercar" was in fact a Trabant, and he decided to sign up for the REECCS, the only racing series in which the car was legal.

His first race was the Monaco Grand Prix, and despite being the highest ranked Trabant driver in the race, it proved to be his only race in the series.
