Johnny Cecotto Jr.

Johnny Amadeus Cecotto more commonly known as Johnny Cecotto Jr. (born 9th September, 1989 in Augsburg, West Germany) is a Venezuelan-German racing driver best known for his appearances in Formula One. His father, Johnny Cecotto also raced in Formula One as well as becoming a World Champion in both Grand Prix Motorcycle racing and Touring Car racing.

Formula One

2012: Marussia

Cecotto made his first steps into Formula One when he signed for the new Marussia team ahead of 2012. Joined by John Bean, the new team were average midfielders but Cecotto was able to take two third place finishes on merit. Cecotto finished his debut season in nineteenth place.

2013: Renault

Cecotto moved to the Renault team for 2013, racing alongside fellow Venezuelan driver Giancarlo Serenelli. Cecotto was only able to take one third place finish this season, but at least improved on his 2012 finishing position by finishing in eighteenth.

2016-2018: Haas

After a brief time away from the paddock, Cecotto was named as reserve driver for the USA-based Haas team in 2016.

Cecotto would be called upon in late 2017 when regular driver Robert Kubica was ruled outof the remainder of the season due to an injury suffered at the Italian Grand Prix. Cecotto scored some very good points finishes in Kubica's absence - which would be enough for him to make the race seat his for the following season.

Cecotto was only an occasional points scorer in 2018 - apart from an unexpected maiden win for the Venezuelan at the French Grand Prix. Despite this victory, Cecotto would not be retained beyond 2018.
