The 2018 Race of Rejects is a race held in the off-season of the typical motorsport calendar, open to any driver who is currently a free agent and seeking new representation, and looking for a race drive for the upcoming season.
The race follows the well known Race of Champions format, with drivers going head to head around a temporary track built within the Stadio San Siro, and a winner being declared via a tournament elimination format. 64 drivers went into the first round, and in opening three rounds one driver per duel progressed via a sudden death race. For the quarter-finals and semi-finals, a best of three format came into play, and for the Final and 3rd Placed Duel, a best of five format was used.
The event produced a shock winner, as amateur GT racer Laurindo Coelho overcame a string of top professional drivers to lift the trophy against all odds, overcoming the likes of Akira Yamamura and Evgeny Restov on his path to success. Portugal was the most successful nation represented at the event, with Coelho's compatriot Diego Pereira taking third place overall, having lost to Coelho at the semi-final stage.
