The 1994 F1RGP2C German Grand Prix was the ninth round of the 1994 F1RGP2C season. Padraig O'Connell won the race by holding off John Zimmer for the last 19 laps.
Race Report
Qualifying
Jack Christopherson dominated qualifying, setting the fastest time in both sessions. He topped Zimmer by 0.597 seconds. Both Jordans outqualified the two McLarens and Kazuhiko Takagi.
Race
The start was especially chaotic. Dennis Mignolet was tagged by Pablo da Silva but neither party was damaged. Christopherson took off into the lead with O'Connell moving from fourth to second. Daniel Moreno dropped back to fourth and Zimmer fell to fifth. Poppy Whitechapel tried an overambitious move on her teammate and was knocked off the circuit by Mignolet. Whitechapel unsuccessfully tried to spin out of the gravel trap multiple times before she shattered her front wing and was forced to pit. Her ineffectual attempts to spin-turn her way out of the gravel earned her "Reject of the Race". Pippa Mann's suspension collapsed on Lap 5 which sent her straight into the armco. James Davies crashed on Lap 6 and Max von Hegel crashed on Lap 7. Pablo da Silva retired with a wheel problem on Lap 8. Éadbhard Ó'Caoimhín, last week's winner, went out with a transmission problem on the same lap. Douglas Mann's Peugeot engine expired on Lap 10 while he was running in ninth.
Daniel Moreno retired for the third consecutive time with a transmission problem, hurting his championship hopes considerably, on Lap 17. Zimmer chased down Rory McAllister before setting his sights on O'Connell. Christopherson's lead was unassailable but Zimmer hoped to gain a consolation. The lone pit stop window fell around Lap 25 as the remaining field decided to pit, except for Tom Douglas who retired with another Peugeot engine failure. Two laps later, Christopherson pulled off with a transmission problem on Lap 27. O'Connell swooped into the lead but he was desperately defending from Zimmer at the same time. Somehow, O'Connell held off Zimmer for the entire race and won by 0.9 tenths of a second. O'Connell's win saved Christopherson four points in the Drivers' Championship. Leonhard von Gottorp finished third and Kazuhiko Takagi was fourth as Benetton took a lead in the Constructors' Championship. Dennis Mignolet finished fifth and Damon Cannon finished sixth.
