The 1980 Dywa Grand Prix Series season was the third series of the Dywa Grand Prix Series.
Teams and drivers
All teams and drivers raced identical Dywa-003 chassis - however, at the start of the season, 3 teams were granted use of the new-for-1979 turbocharged Renzo BI-3T 1.5 V8t. The rest of the teams continued to use the trustworthy[citation needed] Renzo DFV-2 3.0 V8 engines that had been in use since the series' inception.
The teams granted use of turbos at the start of the season were Macchina Automobili Giorgio Armani, Great Leap Backward, and Blockton Impact.
Driver Changes
- Giuseppe Rigatoni was injured after the season-opening race at Enna-Pergusa in a severe crash at high speeds - he would not return for the remainder of the season, and was replaced by Marco Tortellini.
- Stefano Tapfer suffered a similar crash, with his injuries leaving him unable to race until midway through 1981 - Shota Kakhaberidze would replace him.
- Paul Pott crashed at Tamburello on the first lap at Imola, resulting in a injury that would keep him from racing in the next 2 rounds of the championship. South West African Bern van der Westhouzen would replace him.
- Eddy Marin died in a crash at Rivazza at Imola. Marcin Paulauska would replace him.
- Charibert's Racing Squad did not arrive at Spa-Francorchamps in order to take part in the 3rd round of the championship. They would return to the grid for the German GP.
- David Soufflé replaced Miloš Ovtapase for the race at Spa-Francorchamps - however, he was injured in a serious crash at Eau Rouge, resulting in his injury. Soufflé sued for compensation, and in response, was retroactively disqualified from the race and his team, Batman Benzi Racing, were excluded for the championship, for bringing the sport into disrepute.
- "Dom Wings" crashed at Pouhon during the race at Spa-Francorchamps, and would not be able to race until partway through the 1981 season. His replacement would be Yu Shiting.
- For round 4, Trefniadaeth Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch Dywa Rasio entered the series, with returning driver Heywood Jablowme and newcomer Mike Pfinger as their drivers.
- Nicholás Krutzhoff took the place of Lena Troscchi for the race at Halle-Saale-Schleife.
- Iain MacCampbell gave up his seat at HEART DISEASE for the German GP in favour of Jill Scott.
