The Scrub Era F1 series begins with the Formula One grid at its largest ever size in 1990, and challenges team owners to survive as Formula One contracts to a grid of 26 cars through the 1990s. Due to its starting point, the game considers all real-life Formula One results from 1950 to 1989 to exist unchanged.

History

1990

The 1990 season saw a record breaking 46 cars enter Formula One. Ferrari's decision to supply engines to three customer teams helped Ligier and Zakspeed to move back up the grid after both teams had disappointing 1989 seasons. However, the season was dominated by Alain Prost, driving for Camel McLaren Honda: the Frenchman claimed his fifth World Championship, and his third in consecutive years.

1991

The 1991 season saw financial pressures cause two of 1990's entrants, First-Life and Minardi, absent from the 1991 grid. Most top drivers stayed at their 1990 teams, with Prost, Mansell, Senna, Boutsen and Alliot all unmoved. Nelson Piquet returned to the grid with the Footwork team following his acrimonious time with Ferrari.
