Philip Toll Hill Jr. (born April 20th, 1927 in Miami, FL, died August 28th, 2008 in Salinas, CA) was an American racing driver best known for his appearances in Formula One.

Formula One

Hill began racing cars in the mid to late 1940s and eventually moved to the United Kingdom as a trainee driver for Jaguar in 1949. A few years later, Hill got on the books of Scuderia Ferrari - who gave him his first Formula One chances in the 1956 Monaco and Belgian Grands Prix. Hill retired from both events but he remained a promising prospect for Ferrari who loaned him out the following year to the North American Racing Team for the season ending United States Grand Prix.

In 1958, Hill - still under contract with Ferrari - spent the vast majority of the season at Team Lotus barring the finale in the United States where he returned to Ferrari.
