Mario Hytten
Mario Hytten (born 20th April, 1955 in Gothenberg, Sweden) is a Swiss former racing driver known for his appearances in World Touring Car Masters.
WTCM
In 1988, Hytten was signed by German team Euromotor International to drive their Class C BMW M3 E30 alongside Italian sportscar ace Mauro Baldi. His season was fairly unremarkable, taking a best finish of second in class at the Hockenheim sprint race. He'd finish the series ninth in class.
The following season, Hytten remained with Euromotor as they moved up into the B Class with an older BMW 635CSi model. Baldi would depart for the works Mercedes-Benz team and Hytten would be joined by Brazilian Maurizio Sandro Sala. Inexplicably, Hytten became the WTCM's highest paid driver at the time - taking home over DM 2,200,000 over the course of the season, with Sala also pocketing just under DM 2 million as well. A combination of a lack of effort following his newly found riches and a hideously outclassed car saw Hytten fail to qualify for any races in 1989.
With a much larger budget than before, 1990 saw Hytten join up with fellow Swiss racer Christophe Hurni at the Sports Promotion team; racing an independent Mercedes-Benz 190E in Class C.
Later career
After his windfall in 1989, Hytten would retire from active competition in the early 1990s and focus on his own business ventures.
