Giancarlo Martini

Giancarlo Martini (born 16th August, 1947 in Lavezzola, Ravenna, Italy, died 26th March, 2013 in Forlí, Italy) was an Italian racing driver known for his appearances in Formula One.

Formula One

In 1976 he took part in a near-full season with the stumbling Italian team Dywa but failed to pre-qualify on any occasion.

Martini would switch to the British Hesketh team in 1977, but this run of failing to qualify would continue.

Personal life

His nephews, Pierluigi and Oliver were also racing drivers - with Pierluigi becoming an established member of the F1 grid in the mid-to-late 1980s.

Martini would pass away in 2013 at the age of 65 as the result of a long term illness.
