Francois Albertini (born 19 January 1968 in Rome, Italy) is a Monegasque businessman racing driver of Italian descent, and the chairman of shipbuilding company Albertini Construzioni Navali. He's also an avid racing driver, currently competing in F1RWRS for Shonan DMS Racing, and a renowned team principal.

Biography

Born in a family of Monegasque-Italian businessman Leon Albertini and Italian supermodel Rita Carpignione, Francois spent most of his childhood in Italy (hence the spelling of his name). Albertini completed his high school education in Rome and then, after his military service, he went to the University of Padua where he studied engineering. Since his father's retirement in 1996, he's in charge of their family business - shipbuilding company Albertini Construzioni Navali, and is running other businesses in Europe and North America.

Racing career

He started racing in 1998, at the relatively late age of 30. He began his career in the French Touring Car Championship, and never scored any noteworthy results. Since then he has progressed, mostly thanks to his money from the company, to F1RWRS.

2014: Shonan DMS Racing

First three races with Shonan proved to be a disaster - Francois couldn't get past the pre-qualifying session. In his frustration he was considering changing teams and going to CR Motorsport, but decided to stay since he couldn't meet Tropico's expectations when it came to sponsorship. This only continued the ongoing string of DNPQs, and Albertini left the sport by the end of 2014.

Team owner

Francois was known to promote his company as well as its subsidiaries in motorsports. To give his naval construction company more prominence in 1995, he purchased Forti F1 team and managed it single-handedly for one season, selling some of his shares to Luca de Montmelo in 1996 and quitting the series after that season.

In 2012 he entered the Street Racing League with Albertini Siderurgia GP, named after the company. Fellow bussinessman's son Alessandro Vita-Kouzkin and Swiss driver Alexandre Imperatori were signed as drivers. After The Vanderbilt Cup the team was sold to Hydook Racing and renamed as Hydook GP.

Most recently he decided to start his driver management program to promote young drivers from around the world. His first client is a 22-year-old Canadian, Michel Toureau, who quickly found employment when Francois Albertini decided to enter the F1RBCC with Albertini EuroRacing.

However, after the financial crisis hit his company, he decided to bail out of passive motorsport and sold some of his teams to Hydook Racing. Now he remains as the second driver for Shonan DMS Racing and his driver development company is still on the lookout for drivers.

Private life

Albertini is married to Kathlyn. They have one son, Jean-Vincent (born 27 July 1990). He is remotely related to a Belgian racing driver, Ron Mignolet.
