After a number of years in low-level formulae, Leclerc stepped into FIA Formula 2 in 2019 with Trueba Racing Team. Leclerc scored four wins on his way to third in the championship which was enough to catapult him into Formula One at the first time of asking.
Leclerc joined fellow Frenchman Marcel Agyemang-Badu at the Fernando Alonso Speed Team for his first season. He was a regular points scorer in the early races and scored his first podium with a third place in the Jordan Grand Prix.
Leclerc is close personal friends with fellow Formula One driver Jules Bianchi, having begun his career at Jules' father's go-kart circuit. Bianchi is also Leclerc's godfather.
