The 1980 WFMS Formula 1 season was the first season of a breakaway premier open-wheel series from the newly established World Federation of Motor Sports. Bernie Ecclestone established the WFMS as a competitor series to Formula One, with several teams and drivers from the 1979 Formula One season set to compete in the category.
