Johansson returned to F1 after a year to lead the Rial Racing team alongside fellow WTCM competitor Christian Danner.
World Touring Car Masters
1988
After missing out on a drive in F1 for the 1988 season, Johansson found employment in the new World Touring Car Masters championship with Alfa Romeo alongside former F1 pilots Gianfranco Brancatelli, Andrea De Cesaris and Piercarlo Ghinzani.
Unfortunately for Johansson and Alfa Romeo, the team was outclassed by the BMW and Mercedes runners in Class C, meaning he finished the season in seventeenth place in class.
