Jean-Pierre Jacques Jarier (born 10th July, 1946 in Charenton-le-Pont, France) is a French former racing driver known for his appearances in Formula One.

Formula One

1977-: Renault & Fittipaldi

After a year with the works Renault team in F2, Jarier stepped up to Formula One alongside fellow Frenchman Jean-Pierre Jabouille - whom had also spent the previous two years in F2 with Renault.

Being a new team, Renault were forced to take part in pre-qualifying but being a well-funded and developed team they were a class above most of the fellow competitors in this regard. Reliability for the turbo-engineed Renault would be a constant bother for the pair - with both Jarier and Jabouille frequently retiring from the races.

After a horrific accident at the Dutch Grand Prix in which Emerson Fittipaldi was ruled out for eight months, Jarier was sent on loan to Copersucar Team Fittipaldi for the remainder of 1977.
