Race Report
Qualifying
Oschersleben has a history of throwing up strange results and this time was no different. In pre-qualifying, reigning champion Gary Cameron failed to qualify for the first time in his career. Aurelien Moll, Roda and John Zimmer joined him. During qualifying, world champion Chris Dagnall put in a smashing lap and placed the RubberTex-Jones car on pole for the first time, beating out fellow champion Daniel Melrose. Sammy Jones also made his first start, marking the first time that both RubberTex-Joneses would be on the grid. Further back, Pippa Mann pipped her brother Douglas by a tenth of a second for 14th place on the grid.
Race
The start was generally uneventful as Dagnall led from Melrose and Frank Zimmer. On Lap 4, Pippa Mann became the first to pit and, as expected, she began to immediately challenge for 18th with her brand-new tyres. By Lap 6, the top five had gapped the field, with Dagnall still leading. On Lap 12, however, the field had bunched up, with the top twelve stacked on top of each other. A lap before, Nathanael Spencer, Frank Zimmer, Hagane Shizuka and Luca Pacchiarini all pitted.
Chris Dagnall sprinted away from the pack while battles raged on behind him. Dagnall led until Lap 17, when Ashley Watkinson passed him. Dagnall finally pitted on Lap 18, leaving Watkinson the lead. Pippa was the first of the stoppers, running fourth, with Dave Simpson (who had pitted on Lap 10), Spencer and Shizuka stuck behind Sammy Jones. Jones pitted, (at the same time as his teammate, by the way) leaving the stoppers to chase after Pippa.
Frank Zimmer, Spencer and Pippa Mann all passed Watkinson by Lap 22 and began a three-way battle for the lead. Douglas Mann blocked his sister while attempting to unlap himself. Meanwhile, Hagane Shizuka moved up to fourth, and Dave Simpson passed Watkinson for fifth. Pippa Mann, however, faltered on old tyres, leaving Nathanael Spencer to take his second win of the season and second win in a row. Mann was second, collecting the first podium for Anglo-Manx Racing. Frank Zimmer was third, followed by Shizuka and Dave Simpson. Polesitter Chris Dagnall was sixth, taking RubberTex-Jones' first points ever. T. Hemo Goblin was a competent seventh and Darren Older Jr was eighth. Spencer's win put him ten points ahead of Simon Redman in the drivers championship and put Prospec sixteen points up on Rosenforth Engineering.
