1977: British F1 Team and Tyrrell

Kagan's first entry in the 1977 season was at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, for the British F1 Team. Despite failing to pre-qualify, Kagan's outstanding drive later in the weekend won him the Tony Brise Memorial Trophy after starting in 2nd place, behind polesitter John Watson in the Shadow.

This result helped Kagan to sign a contract with Tyrrell team from the next race in Zandvoort, after Tyrrell fired Mexican driver Héctor Rebaque.
