With his father's assistance, Larsen made his touring car debut at then-very young age of 20 alongside experienced former F1 driver, truck racer and ABBA session drummer Slim Borgudd, driving a Volvo 240 Turbo to make it an all-Swedish affair. Little was expected of the new team, and even less of the inexperienced Larsen, and Andreas indeed made an inauspicious start, with no points finishes and six failures to qualify (including four in a row) in the first half of the season, while Borgudd scored four times and made the grid all but twice. However, Andreas' performances improved rapidly in the second half of the season, scoring his first points at Monza and then finishing in the points a further three times (Borgudd only scored once in the same period), and generally matching the performance of his teammate. The highlight of Larsen's rookie season however was the final race at Bathhurst- sharing a car with Borgudd, the Larsen Racing System team finished a season-best seventh overall, which secured the Independent title for teammate Borgudd. Larsen finished the season a respectable 26th in the overall championship, which translated to a strong 11th in Class B and 5th in the Independent's Championship.
