The 1996 Italian Formula One Championship was the ninhth and final season of the of Italian Formula One Championship. Both 1995 Ferrari drivers, Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger, transferred to the newly Italian Benetton team to be replaced by Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine at Ferrari. No drivers began the 1996 season at the same team as they began the 1995 season. This would prove to be the final season of the Italian Formula One Championship, as the organisers of the Indoor Trophy decided to make it a Formula 3000 event for 1997.
