Tim Floc'h
Tim Floc'h (born 18 September 1950 in Nantes, France) is a French former racing driver and team owner, best known as the first-ever race winner of the Dywa Grand Prix Series. He is not related to former NASCAR driver Tim Flock or his relatives.
Born and raised in Brittany, Floc'h wasn't really interested in motorsports until he got his first car, a blue Renault 16, in 1972. Over the next few years, he began racing on a club level and eventually built himself a cult status among the street racing community in northern France. It was reported that he used half of his winnings to secure a seat in the Dywa Grand Prix Series for Vaillante Équipe Dywa France. His career kicked off to a perfect start as he secured pole position and the race win in the first round of the 1978 season in Enna-Pergusa. However, while showing off his substantial qualifying prowess and taking another pole later in the season, Floc'h never finished in the points again and wound up 12th in the championship.
After one season in the Dywa series, Floc'h left due to his concerns about driver safety, particularly after the penultimate round in Charade. He moved to sportscar racing and participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans several times before finally retiring from top-tier motorsport in 1995. However he still visits, and competes sporadically, in street racing events in his native Brittany even with his advancing age.
While initially having a somewhat lukewarm relationship due to their different upbringings, Godard and his Dywa France teammate Jacques Godard, known earlier under the pseudonym "Michel Vaillant", eventually became very good friends (also pairing up for Le Mans on several occasions) and formed FG Compétition in 1989. That year they entered the French Supertouring Championship with Godard at the wheel and with the aim to move to the World Touring Car Masters within five years. Eventually, Godard made his WTCM debut in 1993; he paid homage to his former identity by running their first race in a Vaillante-sponsored car.
