Nicchi started 13th on his debut in the Winter Cup at Sonoma, interestingly he lined up alongside Aimée Gauthier, granddaughter of Guillaume who Nicchi's own grandparent raced against in F1 in the '80s. He had a fairly quiet first race, finishing a decent 11th just outside the points after a battle with Volker Scrattenheim. His second race was dissapointing as he qualified 17th and finshed 23rd after a poor pitstop.

For the first race in Laguna Seca Nicchi lined up a strong 7th but dropped to 22nd, the position he would start race 2 in. He ran quietly and finished only 21st.

Next was Long Beach, for race 1 his struggles continued and he qualified another dissapointing 18th, he made no places during the race. Finally he showed promise at the last race of the Cup as he qualified a strong 6th and despite being hit at the start by Behrman Reith, he held on to finish 5th.

Nicchi's inconsistent form continued into the main season as his first 3 races were without points, however after a solid 8th place finish at Donington his spirits were lifted by a euforic win at what was closest to a home crowd at Monza before slipping back to not scoring at Austria.
