Sam Hanks

Sam Hanks (born 13 July 1914 in Ohio, died 27 June 1994 in Pacific Palisades) was an American racing driver who won the 1957 Indianapolis 500. A versatile racer in the United States, he started 11 Indianapolis 500 races, but also competed in midget cars, sprint cars and stock cars with success. He also entered a single Formula 1 event, the 1953 United States Grand Prix, driving for Bardahl Oil Company. However, he couldn't adapt to road racing in time and failed to qualify for the race.
